Nu Eta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.

The Nu Eta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority is a collegiate chapter at the University of West Florida in Pensacola. Although originally chartered in the 80's the Nu Eta chapter was brought back to life in 1999 and has been going strong ever since.

The Five Pearls



Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated was founded by five industrious women that are amorously nicknamed, "The Five Pearls." The "Five Pearls" are: Arizona Cleaver (Stemons), Myrtle Tyler (Faithful), Viola Tyler (Goings), Fannie Pettie (Watts) and Pearl A. Neal.

Each woman has her own claim to fame other than  the momentuous creation of Zeta Phi Beta.

Arizona Cleaver (Stemons) was essential in the formation of many undergraduate chapters all over the country and was the first president of the Alpha chapter located at Howard University.

Myrtle Tyler (Faithful) was the national president of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority for the years of 1921-1922; making her Zeta Phi Beta's second national president succeeding Arizona Cleaver(Stemons).

Viola Tyler (Goings) was an Ohio educator for many years and is remembered as a woman very much concerned and active within her community.

Fannie Pettie (Watts) was an educator in Savannah,Georgia and helped to create two Zeta chapters in her area.

Pearl A. Neal attended the Julliard School of Music and became the first Black woman to achieve a master's degree in music from Columbia University. She later became an esteemed educator in North Carolina.
